SZA & Dancers | Gov Ball 2024

For SZA’s performance at Gov Ball 2024, I designed a series of custom stage wear looks inspired by a reimagined pirate mythology; gritty, romantic, and raw. The main look for SZA centered around a hand-constructed halter top made from lamb skin and featuring a distressed “5” patch. This top was paired with asymmetrical chaps layered over deconstructed patchwork shorts, using a collage of upcycled leather, mesh, and tattered lace. The garments were intentionally weathered with exposed seams, raw edges, and distressed textiles.

Each of SZA’s backup dancers wore unique custom looks that complemented the main design story. Their outfits featured repurposed shorts and original patterned bodysuits and tops, individually designed to reflect the pirate theme with a futuristic twist. Each piece was constructed to allow for full dynamic movement while still embodying the rugged femininity and storytelling that SZA’s performance demanded.
